Joseph Dave “Joe” Gomez (born 23 May 1997) is an English professional footballer who plays for Liverpool. Gomez prefers to play as a full back but can also fulfill the role of a centre back. Born in Cat ford, London, Gomez graduated through the academy at Charlton Athletic, making his debut for the club’s Under-18 side at just 13 years old. He made his senior debut in a 4–0 League Cup victory over Colchester United at The Valley on 12 August 2014.
Gomez broke into the first team at 17 years of age. He joined Liverpool in the summer transfer window. Gomez has represented England up to under-21 level.
Liverpool secured his signature on a five-year deal for an undisclosed fee. Gomez made his Liverpool debut against Stoke City starting as a left back in a 1–0 win. He also provided the assist for Philippe Coutinho’s match-winning goal in the 86th minute. His impressive debut meant he kept his place in the team for the match against Bournemouth, ending in a 1-0 win for Liverpool.
