This stadium in Istanbul is named after the first president of Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. The foremost purpose of the stadium, which was built on 2002, was to host 2008 Olympics but failed in the prospect as Turkey’s bid was overran by Beijing. The stadium holds a seating capacity of 76,092.
The Turkish football clubs, Besiktas and Sivasspor used this Stadium as their home ground when their respective stadiums were undergoing renovation. Ataturk Olympic Stadium also serves in hosting the International football games of Turkey.
With just over a dozen years since it foundation, the finest memory of the biggest stadium in Turkey was creditably hosting the UEFA Champions League final in 2005, which is considered as one of the best match in European football. Liverpool overturned a three-nil deficit to win the title.
